What is Navigator in Destiny 2?
The Navigator is an exotic kinetic trace-rifle. It deals Strand damage and launches Special (green) projectiles. It was introduced in Season 21 the full name of which is "Season of the Deep". That season's most important feature was the dungeon Ghosts of the Deep and the Navigator is a part of its loot-table.
Is The Navigator a good trace rifle?
Is it good? No! It's exceptional! Some players claim it to be one of the best trace rifles out there (see Light Gg's comment section to find a couple of proofs of that, for example). And there are good reasons for that – and those reasons are perks. The unique exotic intrinsic perk of this rifle is Protective Weave. The idea of it is simple: shoot at your ally to give the Woven Mail buff to you both. The Woven Mail gives you protection that decreases incoming damage to your body (that excludes damage to your head as well as melee damage). It's a good thing and it's funny that to get it, you gotta shoot your teammate but well, that's how it works. Also, you gotta make as many as 6 shots to activate the buff – 5 of the bullets are supposed to return after it's been triggered.
Another unique perk is Weft Cutter. Its description says that it "severs" your target after you've done sustained damage to it for some time. What it means is that your target gets a debuff that reduces the damage that it deals with. Interestingly, you get the Woven Mail buff at the same time which is not stated in the description. So it's a sort of a secret perk that is definitely a welcome one.
The curated roll includes several more non-unique perks: Full Bore, Light Battery, and Composite Stock. Full Bore increases Range (+15) while reducing stability (-10) and handling (-5). Light Battery improves handling (+10) but also increases reload speed (+10). And finally Composite Stock gives you more stability and handling (+5 to both).
How do I get the Navigator?
The only way to unlock this rifle is to pick it up after defeating the last boss of the Ghosts of the Deep dungeon. It sounds easy but the trick is that it doesn't drop often. The chance of it is elusively small, hence don't expect it to be a joyride. You will likely have to visit the dungeon several (dozens of) times. If you want to make it easier for yourself, reject the idea of doing it over and over with PUGs or friends who might not be online when you'd like.
